Simple and sweet and oh so resonant to animal lovers everywhere, – if books could sing, this picture book would be an opera.

Pure magic, from cover to cover, this little book is big on heart and so endearing I had to read it through several times.

Gorgeously illustrated, the story begins as our main protagonist, an unnamed little girl, tells us about her scruffy little terrier, who is so much more than a dog that it takes her many pages to fill us in on all the roles he plays in her life.

Ending with a big dollop of love, a scratch behind the ears, and a most necessary giant hug for her little furry bundle, who is, of course, in his final and starring role, her very best friend.

I loved this little gem. So much so, in fact, that I may find myself reading it out loud to my little furry best friends this very night.
